During a scheduled move of the Loaf API from one service to another, the API’s HTTPS certificate needed to be updated, requiring a third party to issue this certificate. Unfortunately, during this HTTPS cerification process, Loaf was unexpectedly hit with a rate limit, meaning that the certificate could not be given.
Loaf is unable to operate from either the old API service or the new one. In short, Loaf is going to be offline for a few days.
There is currently no certain ETA. Advice from the internet has led us to believe that the rate limit could expire after either 24 hours or 7 days. This means that by the earliest, Loaf could be up again by around 11PM tonight (24/10/26), or by the latest 30/10/26. We have reached out to our hosting provider to see if they can assist in this issue, but there is no guarantee that they will get back to us before the rate limit expires, or at all.
Thank you for your cooperation, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email at either business@barryllama.com or support@loafsocial.net
We will continue working hard to bring the service back online as soon as posisble, but it may not be realistic to expect it back up within the next few days.
Tommorrow (25/10/26) afternoon, an attempt to reaquire the certificate will be made - well over the 24 hour limit that we are facing. Hopefully, this should then mean that the service will be online by tomorrow evening.
This morning we recieved an email from our new API hosting provider informing us that this error is not our fault, but theirs, so they will try and get it fixed as soon as possible. This means that there is no exact time frame on when it will be fixed, but we doubt that it will be longer than 48h.
After an email conversation, it has been established that the rate limit is, unfortunately, a 7 day one. This means that our URL is not able to be used by either the old or new API until Saturday 31st October. We will try and find alternative solutions, but there is no guarantee anything will be able to happen. Once again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience.
Once again, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email at either business@barryllama.com or support@loafsocial.net
A different solution has been found, which avoids any Https encryption from let’s encrypt. Loaf is now fully online, though may be slightly baggy. I have been emailing and setting all of this stuff up from my phone on a train, so now that it’s up partially, I will not be touching it again until I get home on Tuesday. Thank you for your cooperation.
